Kent County

Eastern Shore

www.kentcounty.com

Situated on a scenic peninsula created by the Chester and Sassafras rivers, Kent County has retained its serene beauty despite the passage of time. Our enchanting coastline varies from historic waterfront towns dotted with marinas of all sizes to stretches of low, rolling farmlands broken only by the tidewater tributaries of the Chesapeake.

A wonderful aspect of living on the Eastern Shore of Maryland is the convenience of tax-free shopping in Middletown and Dover, Delaware, both a short drive away.

Access to the Chesapeake Bay and many smaller waterways is within a ten minute drive of any part of Kent County. The waterways consist of small streams, rivers, and tidal marshes - offering something for everyone. Kayaking, swimming, crabbing, sailing, jet skiing, water skiing, fresh water and striped bass fishing are all activities that can be enjoyed within the rich resources of Kent County.

Each JLS community offers something unique. What they have in common is charm, convenience to shopping and local water activities, and a great investment opportunity whether you're building your new primary residence, an investment property or a weekend home.

Chestertown

Chestertown

Located on the banks of the Chester River, Chestertown was founded in 1706, when it served as a busy colonial port. Today, historic Chestertown retains its colonial charm, featuring brick sidewalks, historic homes and an annual Tea Party reenactment. The Chestertown Tea Party, held each year during Memorial Day Weekend, commemorates an historical event that occurred in the port of Chestertown just weeks before its more famous counterpart, The Boston Tea Party.

Chestertown is also home to The Schooner Sultana, a replica of a colonial era British merchant ship that was built entirely in Chestertown. Sultana is docked at the foot of Cannon Street and is available for day sails by tourists and school groups interested in learning about the ecosystem and history of the Chesapeake Bay.

Washington College, the tenth oldest liberal arts college in the country, is located in Chestertown. Founded in 1782, Washington College has the honor of being the only college in the nation to be given permission by our first President to use his name. In fact, President Washington served as a member of Washington College's first Board of Visitors and Governors. Today, the small liberal arts college is home to nearly 2,000 undergraduate and graduate students.

Galena

Galena

Convenient access to boat ramps and marinas in Rock Hall and Galena gives homeowners the opportunity to quickly go out boating and enjoy the Chesapeake Bay. Both towns host wonderful restaurants of great variety of specialties from seafood to local favorites. These towns, although at opposite ends of the county, reflex the residents love of the water. Each town's fabric is connected to the valuable resources of the waterways. The towns are wonderful locations to build near the water for a vacation or residence home.

Rock Hall, the jewel of the Chesapeake, features a community of homes for those interested in quick and easy access to the Chesapeake Bay. Within five minutes of local public landings, Rock Hall homebuyers will enjoy all the Bay and other local waterways have to offer. The town of Rock Hall is a sleepy fishing village where watermen still wake in the early hours of the morning to ply their trade on the waters of the Bay. Some of the county's finest restaurants, from fine dining to crab feasts, can be found in Rock Hall. The Mainstay, which welcomes performers from Grammy winners to local acts, is a not-to-be missed local musical venue.
